I got a 1.5 hour massage to Arkana Salon as a birthday present and was super excited since I had been wanting a massage for forever. The massage was a pretty big disappointment... Because they made this salon from an old house, the floor was incredibly squeaky with no carpet. The masseuse was very strong, but didn't focus on areas for very long, despite the 1.5 hour time frame. She was running late that day, and though she guaranteed I would still get the full experience, it was very obvious that she was rushing when she would spend seconds on spots that I knew were filled with tension. This had to be the biggest disappointment, as my 1.5 hour massage lasted only a little over an hour. Also, she had a wheely chair that she kept rolling all over the wood floor and the small stereo with poor speakers couldn't cover up the chatter and laughing coming from downstairs. Overall the atmosphere was far from relaxing and I didn't walk away feeling any better than I did walking in.
Not a good atmosphere. the decorator is so confused. it is decorated part victorian, part modern and part old world. If decore is at at all a reason you choose a place to go this will drive you nuts as it did me. As for the staff. the girl I had was nice but it kinda had a judgmental vibe like they all looked me up and down when i walked in. not a fabulous place. she did a good job on my hair tho
Karen has always been great with my long hair. Unfortunately, they are closing at the end of August 2013.
What they lack in high end glitz and glam, they more than make up for in skill. Don't listen to the girl below, she was obviously having an extremely self-conscious day. Do they really deserve a 3 star mark-off because you didn't understand their decor? Like you said, they were nice and did a good job on your hair.
