It has been really hard enjoying the home going through so much with this build. I think one of things I am most happy about is purchasing an address block instead of accepting their 'free' address plate with their logo, so I don't have to be constantly reminded of the experience.
Loved working with Troy and team on our house. They were super accommodating on the changes we wanted to make on our floor plans...nothing big but, things that were important to us. The process was super painless. We loved that we got daily building updates via their app. The only real delay we experienced was due to the weather so, not much anyone could do about that. Even with the weather delays we were still in our house a month earlier than we thought we'd be! But, that "month earlier" was a couple weeks later that Lifestyle wanted, they did a great job of sticking to their schedule. My wife really loved they way we were able to pick out all our colors, carpets, cabinets, etc even before they started digging. That allowed us to enjoy the building process and I suspect that helps Lifestyle build faster. If we ever build again we'll use Lifestyle.
As for service after the sale, they have been great. We have found a few minor issues that we submitted as warranty claims and they have been responsive and timely in getting them resolved.
Two weeks after moving into our home, we experienced a leak in a wall shower unit. We called LifeStyle and were told to turn off the water in the home until someone could get there to take a look at the leak. We have a house of 9 people, who went without running water for 5 days before anyone got out to inspect the leak. They told us there was a gasket that had disintegrated in the junction between the wall and the shower unit, and told us they would send someone out the next day to get started on fixing the damage. The next day came, and we received an email from LifeStyle stating that they would not cover the shower leak, and provided a new warranty coverage list that no longer covered the plumbing. The date of the new warranty coverage was dated five days after our signing of our mortgage, so technically the new warranty coverage was null and void. However, they refused to fix the leak. We had to make a homeowner's insurance claim, and the fix was nearly $5K. The leak had gone back down the wall of the shower, and into the entire subfloor of the bathroom. Which was an entire headache in and of itself, with flooring, vanity, and toilet being ripped up for 3 more months.
After-market work had to be done on the shower in our master bathroom. Lifestyle's representatives were very professional and communicative. The tile company they hired was horrible in comparison. They were late for both appointments and did not introduce themselves, did not update me on their progress each day or say when they would be back. I was incredibly frustrated with that company, Hart Flooring. Lifestyle handled everything very professionally, which was appreciated.
We were told numerous times throughout the build that any out-of-pocket money for upgrades we paid for, that we just needed to save our receipts and we could use that money toward the down payment of the home. So, we spent $20K on flooring, lighting, and plumbing fixture upgrades out-of-pocket, that their contractors installed for us, but 20 days before the finishing of the home, they reversed their statement saying that we could not use that money toward the down payment, and that there was a 'misunderstanding'. They said they could add our expenditures onto the price of the home, and then receive that amount as a refund post-closing. That was never explained throughout the build, and they are very clever in never answering emails or texts about questions I had about out-of-pocket spending, and would always call, so I have no paper trail to take legal recourse. Coming up with the extra $20K that we needed for closing was a huge financial hardship due to them providing inaccurate information.
We have been in our home 7 months, and still have items that have never been completed, although we have placed requests through their warranty portal online. We currently do not have a fireplace that is hooked up to electricity, and we need to start with batteries, Trex decking is falling off the sides of the deck for the second time in 7 months, unstained staircase handrail slats, and a hood vent that never was hooked up to electricity (neither the cabinet company who installed the hood, the appliance company who provided the hood, or LifeStyle who was the builder could decide who was responsible, I ended having to have it hooked up myself).
We chose Lifestyle not only because they had beautiful homes, but mostly for their energy efficiency. We got a beautiful home and it has a great energy efficient score!! Troy Astle was patient with us in helping us choose a plan that would fit our needs and desires. Sarah helped us with matching colors and making selections. She did great because all of our colors turned out beautiful and flow nicely!! When building a house the truth is....mistakes are going to be made, but our project manager Scott Kirby made sure they were fixed or adjusted until we were happy! He also made sure we always knew what was going to be happening and met us to walk through, whenever we wanted. Subcontractor Josh Perryman framed us a perfect house. When the house was measured for drywall, we were told the framing was perfectly straight! Subcontractor Earl Taylor did a fantastic job on our electrical! We are living in our house and loving every minute! Thank you Lifestyle!!
I love the technology that these guys use to help you follow the progress of your home. It is top notch and I highly recommend them!
At LifeStyle, you get told many times through the process that "building is a roller coaster". Well, nothing could have prepared us for the steep dive and crash for this build process. We originally wanted to build a custom home, and they promised time after time in our meetings that they could get the price within our budget, but with every meeting of slashing square footage, and being told "you are the driving force of this project. You envision it, we can make it happen in the price you need." They just couldn't do it. They do not provide an itemized cost as promised on their website of how each area of the cost of the home is broken down. In your contract papers, you only have allotted prices for lighting, flooring, and appliances, which are for cheap product. We ended up going with a standard plan, and were running out of time.
